The Position
The position holder is expected to be a highly independent
veterinarian, to ensure an animal facility with high animal ethics
standard and a high quality of health status of the animals. You will
be responsible for veterinary care of the animals and for ensuring
that the daily care lives up to our high standards experimental animal
care. You will have a close collaboration with other scientists,
animal facility team leader and animal caretakers.
The key areas of responsibility and main job tasks are:
• Oversee the animal health control and monitoring programs
through the development and implementation of SOPs.
• Examine,
diagnose and treat diseases of laboratory animals to ensure the health
of animals used in scientific research and to comply with regulations
governing their humane and ethical treatment
• Oversee
activities concerned with housing, husbandry and animal facility
maintenance to ensure compliance with Novo Nordisk global standards
• Demonstrate soundness of judgment in challenging experimental
plans to ensure correct use of laboratory animals and ability in
responding to unexpected results or adverse outcomes
(pharmacovigilance)
• Collaborate with colleagues in
Laboratory Animal Science to ensure alignment between animal
facilities in Copenhagen, Boston and Beijing
• Oversee
regulatory compliance with all applicable local and national Chinese
laws, consultation and training for animal users
• Collaborate with other Novo Nordisk scientists on the
development of animal models, to plan procedures, and selects animals
for specific research based on knowledge of species and research
principles and techniques
• Represent NNRCC on national
meetings related to laboratory animal science and animal
ethics/welfare and through scholarly work
• Promote a safe and
positive work environment for all personnel in the laboratory animal facility
• Conduct animal welfare monitoring for internal operations and
external collaborations to ensure compliance and facilitate smooth
partnerships.
• Assist management with daily management, long
term planning, and training of animal caretakers.
Other individual assignments
• Become a member of IACUC
Qualifications
• B.S. in Veterinarian Medicine and M.Sc or above in a relevant
scientific discipline with focus on veterinary science, preferably
within laboratory animal area; or D.V.M from U.S and EU
countries
• 3 to 5+ years residency experience within clinical
hospital, laboratory animal science or experience from a similar
pharma industry or CRO position to include experience in dog &
rodent medicine and surgery
• Board-certified laboratory
animal veterinarian is a plus
• Management experience is a plus
• Demonstrated
understanding of animal ethics, housing, documentation/record-keeping,
handling and veterinary care relevant for laboratory animals as well
as Chinese and international regulations on laboratory
animals
• Fluent in oral and written English
• Functional in oral and written Chinese-mandarin
•
Positive and motivated, good team-player, highly flexible and have a
“can-do” approach
• Able to respond to non-business hour
emergencies within the animal facility via an on-call schedule
coordinated with other staff members.
